| Housing A tank large enough to provide 7-10 gallons of water PER FROG. A LONG tank is ideal so they can stretch out their legs and swim. Filter I know there is debate over filters stressing the frogs out. I would not worry too much about that. At times my frogs are right under the outflow area. *You can quiet the outflow of a water-fall type filter. Click here to see how. *Highly Recommended Filter: Magnum 350 - Excellent for 55 gallon tanks! This filter is good for tanks up to 100 gallons. Cover A must unless you want to lose your frogs. DO NOT USE A SCREEN COVER, METAL IONS ARE TOXIC TO FROGS. The 3 Must-haves for water care Koizyme - the only preventative of Redleg. Buy it @ www.xenopus.com Aquarium salt - keeps fungus at bay. Helps treat fungus. Melafix- antibacterial remedy for open red sores, open body wounds, etc. Pimafix- treats fungal infections, and treats internal and external bacterial infections. Contains the calcium they need. I use this as the main food and supplement with other treats. Krill-freeze-dried Bloodworms-freeze-dried (i give only rarely for their tendency to cause sudden bloat in frogs) Tubifex worms- in cube form, boy do they love this! Frozen Brine Shrimp Frozen beef heart feeder guppies/minnows - do not feed goldfish to your frogs because they contain an enzyme that is harmful to the frogs. *please see the Links Page for more sites with more feeding ideas. Other important things to have: ph test kit ammonia test kit nitrate and nitrite test kits *It is a wise choice to invest in a Deluxe Water Testing Kit* 5 gallon bucket (for water changes) manual siphon (makes water removal quick) thermometer for tank turkey baster (great for removing uneaten food, or eggs) penn-plax battery operated vac (you can clean the bottom of a tank in under 1 minute) plants for tank spare 10 gallon tank (used as a hospital tank in the event your frog gets ill) *I feel this list should be helpful to others. I wish i had a list of necessities prior to starting this hobby, it would of made it all the more easier. |
